Chattahoochee Tech Foundation Working to Help Students Stay the Course During COVID-19 Pandemic

The Chattahoochee Tech Foundation has launched a fundraising initiative to provide emergency funds for Chattahoochee Tech students who are at risk of not completing their degrees because of the financial impacts caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

“This is an especially challenging and disruptive time for our students, many of whom are facing extreme financial hardship as they navigate the unexpected and far-reaching implications of the coronavirus pandemic,” said Chattahoochee Tech Vice President of Advancement Jennifer Nelson. “We are seeking financial support for these students to help them complete their degrees and enter the workforce in our community.”

The Chattahoochee Tech Foundation is working to raise $25,000, which will be matched by the Foundation to create a COVID-19 Stay the Course Student Fund totaling $50,000. This fund will serve as a significant source of economic relief for Chattahoochee Tech students who are not eligible for help through the federal government’s Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Funding requests will be based on need, and will be determined by a committee composed of representatives from several units within the college, including student affairs and financial services. Funds will be allocated directly to Chattahoochee Tech students for the specific use of financial hardships that include food and housing, transportation, payments for tuition, books, and other education-based needs.

“We encourage others to help us help our students stay the course on their educational path,” said Nelson, who noted that 32 percent of Chattahoochee Tech students are enrolled in essential healthcare and technical programs of study. “Those who contribute to this fundraising initiative are doing even more than helping a student complete their education. They are contributing to a qualified, essential workforce within our community.”
