Course recommendations may change based on:
- High school graduation requirements
- Potential plans to transfer to a four-year college or university
- Your intended college major or career pathway here or at another future institution
- Academic readiness and workload balance
- Previous coursework and prerequisites (Remember that dual enrollment funding will not pay for retakes)
*If you are unsure about your long-term plans, we are happy to help you choose flexible courses that will keep your options open!
Meet with Your High School Counselor
This is the most important step in determining your dual enrollment schedule! Your dual enrollment courses at Chatt Tech must align with your high school schedule and never supersede your high school graduation requirements.
For your first-term, you will submit an “Advisement Plan” that you and your counselor both sign. Meet with your high school counselor prior to registration each term to ensure you’re on trackwith your high school graduation requirementsand to keep yourfunding application up to date. At the beginning of each term, you will need to send your high school counselor your final schedule.
Review Your Program of Study
Review your program of study (the certificate, diploma or degree you may be pursuing) to understand which courses apply to your pathway:
*DegreeWorks can also be a very helpful tool which can be accessed in your student portal

How do I register for classes?
Please be mindful that some Chatt Tech technical courses will fill very quickly, like cosmetology, welding, HVAC, automotive, etc. For this reason, we advise you to be mindful of dates when registration opens and to act quickly.
Please refer to the Academic Calendar for dates and details:
Academic Calendar - Chatt Tech
- November 2nd at 6:00 AM – Spring 2027 Registration Opens
- March 22nd at 6:00 AM – Summer 2027 Registration Opens
How to Register for Classes
- Log into the Student Portal.
- Locate the Registration card and click “Registration”
- On the menu, click “Register (add/drop/withdraw)”
- Make sure you selected the correct term (semester).
- Find Classes tab
- Type in the subject (ex: ENGL, MATH) and find your course. A drop-down menu will appear.
- Check the courses times, dates, campus locations and if the course if full or has seats remaining.
- Click “Add” to send the class to the Summary box.
- Repeat until all your classes are in your summary box.
- Once all classes are added to the Summary box, click “Submit” to save the schedule. If the class status changes to “registered” in green, the class has successfully added to the schedule.
Helpful Tips on Registration:
- The class is NOT added to the schedule until the submit button is clicked at the bottom of the page.
- You must add co-requisites at the same time, or you will get an error message. For example, if you are registering for a science course you must register for the lecture at the same time as the accompanying lab.
What are A, B and C Term Courses?
At Chatt Tech, courses are offered in three different terms: A, B, and C. A term courses run for the full 16-week semester. B term and C term courses are each 8 weeks long, and move at a faster pace. B term courses take place during the first 8 weeks of the semester, while C term courses take place during the second 8 weeks.
Why am I receiving an error message when I am registering?
- You have not met a prerequisite or corequisite requirement.
- Prerequisite: You must successfully complete a specific course before you can register for the course.
- Corequisite: You must register for two or more courses together. For example, a lecture and its required lab may need to be added to your Summary box at the same time.
- Review the course requirements in the Class Schedule or General Catalog
- Registration is not currently open.
- Registration is only available during designated registration periods. Check the Academic Calendar for registration dates and deadlines:
Academic Calendar - If registration has not opened yet, you will need to wait until your registration period begins.
- Registration is only available during designated registration periods. Check the Academic Calendar for registration dates and deadlines:
- You’re attempting to register for a course outside of your major.
- It is possible to take course that is outside of your program of study. You will need to first confirm with your high school counselor or home study administrator.
- Then, complete this form: Course Outside of Major Form - Dual Enrollment
- You have a registration hold on your account.
- In dual enrollment, registration holds prevent you from adding, dropping, or withdrawing from courses without your counselor’s approval. These are a normal part of the dual enrollment process, and help ensure you stay on track for high school graduation, and keeps your funding application up to date. If you have a hold that requires your high school counselor's written approval:
- Contact your high school counselor and explain that you need to make a schedule change.
- Obtain your high school counselor's written approval.Your counselor must provide written confirmation that they approve the change.
- Have your high school counselor send the approvalto the Chatt Tech Dual Enrollment office using the required process here: dual.enroll@chattahoocheetech.edu
- Chatt Tech will review the request and, if approved, lift the applicable hold and send you a confirmation email.
How do I withdraw from a course?
There are several important factors to consider before deciding to withdraw. Please review the information below carefully.
- You cannot receive Dual Enrollment funding to repeat a course. If you withdraw and later want to retake the same course as a Dual Enrollment student, you will have to pay out of pocket to cover tuition, which is $107 per credit hour. Students with documented extenuating circumstances (such as a serious illness, injury, or death of an immediate family member) may be eligible to submit an Extenuating Circumstances Appeal through their GaFutures account.
- Dual Enrollment students are limited to two total withdrawals. After withdrawing from Dual Enrollment courses two (2) times, you permanently lose eligibility for Dual Enrollment funding. This is a state regulation.
- A withdrawal ("W") earns no college credit. While a W does not affect your college GPA, it does count as an attempted course and lowers your Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) completion ratio. Students must successfully complete at least 67% of all attempted college credit hours to remain in good SAP standing. SAP is reviewed at the end of every semester.
- A withdrawal may affect your high school transcript. Some high schools record a withdrawal on your transcript from a dual enrollment course as an F. In Cobb County, a withdrawal from a Dual Enrollment course is recorded as a 10(F).Please discuss this with your high school counselor.
- Counselor approval is required. All Dual Enrollment schedule changes require written approval from your high school counselor.
If after reviewing this information you would like to withdraw, we need written confirmation from your high school counselor. For all schedule changes, your counselor will need to send us an email. It needs to include your first and last name, and a brief statement saying he/she approves of the withdrawal. It will be emailed here to be reviewed by a supervisor: dual.enroll@chattahoocheetech.edu
From there, your hold will be lifted and you would make the withdrawal in your student portal. Full instructions can be found on our website:

Can I take a course that is not listed in my program of study?
Yes, it is possible to take course that is outside of your program of study. You will need to first confirm with your high school counselor or home study administrator. Then, complete this form: Course Outside of Major Form - Dual Enrollment
Will My Classes Transfer?
What Are Transfer Credits?
Planning ahead with transfer credits can save you time, money, and stress. Here's what you need to know.
Transfer credits are college courses you take now that can count toward your degree at another school later. Not all courses transfer automatically, so knowing which ones do before you enroll is key.
Think of transfer credits like gift cards. When you earn a course credit, it's like loading money onto a gift card. But just like a Starbucks gift card won't work at McDonald's, not every credit "spends" the same way at every school. Guaranteed Transfer courses are more like Visa gift cards and will work within the University System of Georgia.
The Guaranteed Transfer Agreement with USG:
It’s best to review the Guaranteed Transfer Agreement and keep an eye on courses at chosen institutions that will transfer.
*Please note that your chosen major at the USG institution will impact how your transfer credits are applied.
Many students choose Guaranteed Transfer courses, which are part of the University System of Georgia (USG) with TCSG transfer agreement. These are public, in-state institutions including but not limited to: KSU, UGA, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, UNG, etc. These courses are designed to transfer between participating USG institutions if you earn the required grade. Students typically need a C or better in these courses.
Starting with general education courses from this list (English, math, science, history, etc.) is the smartest move to keep your transfer options open.
Please note that a student’s intended major at the USG School may affect how coursework is credited at the USG Institution.
What About Technical Courses — Do They Transfer?
General education courses transfer most reliably. Some technical courses may transfer (certain computer programming, accounting courses, etc.), but many will not — welding, HVAC, and similar career-technical courses typically stay in place but it always depends on the institution and if they have an equivalent course. It’s always best to check the website of your chosen institution for what are called Transfer Articulation or Transfer Equivalency credits. Many of those are posted below!
(Between Technical Colleges of Georgia, equivalent courses should always transfer.)
Many students choose to complete their first 30+ transferrable credit hours (their first year) with Chatt Tech, then apply to four-year institutions. Some of these schools have transfer acceptance rates that are double or even triple their freshman rates.
Why Start at Chatt Tech?
Completing your first 30+ transferable credit hours here before applying to a four-year school comes with real advantages:
- Smaller class sizes
- Multiple campus locations + extensive online options
- No parking fees
- Affordable tuition and fees
- Full student support services
- A dedicated advising team
- Stronger chances of admission compared to freshman acceptance rates
- Typically, no required SAT/ACT scores
Research also shows students who first attend community/technical colleges outperform peers once they reach their destination school!
Check What Transfers: Articulation Tools by School

What do I need to know as a Home Study Student?
Common First-Term Courses within Dual Enrollment:
It may be helpful to review some courses students take when they are working toward core/general education credits prior to submitting your Advisement Plan for your first term. The courses listed below often satisfy both high school graduation requirements and earn students’ transferable college credit.
Your chosen courses may be different, as these are references for common selections, but the schedule you choose will be individualized to your needs, transfer plans, readiness, etc.

For Home Study Parents:
Adding Courses Within GaFutures
As your student prepares for their first semester in Dual Enrollment, there are some additional actions you need to take as a Home Educator. Within GA Futures, you will create an Education Professional account before your student creates their student account. This will allow you to create a unique name for your home study high school. You will NOT select a high school from the drop-down list unless you previously created the high school and have administrative rights to the school.
Your student will then create their own account, selecting the name of the high school you have created. This action links the student account to your Education Professional account, allowing you rights as the high school counselor to add and approve the courses your student will take in Dual Enrollment.
To assist you with these processes, see the following links which detail these essential steps:
- Home Study Adding Courses (Use this once your student is admitted and registered for classes at the college)

What is Satisfactory Academic Progress?
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is a set of academic rules that all students, including dually enrolled students, must follow to stay eligible for funding at Chattahoochee Technical College. SAP looks at your college GPA, how many classes you successfully complete, and how many total credits you attempt. SAP is checked at the end of each term, and not meeting these standards can impact your ability to continue taking college classes through Dual Enrollment.
Students on SAP Warning status have funding for one additional term in order to improve these variables. If they are not met, they are placed on SAP Suspension status and funding is revoked. Students may still choose to take courses with us at CTC, but they would have to be paid for out of pocket.
- Minimum GPA:
You must maintain a 2.0 cumulative college GPA in your Chatt Tech courses to stay in good standing. The cumulative GPA includes grades of A, B, C, D, F, and WF. Grades of I, W, and WP do not affect the GPA.
- Pace/Course Completion Rate:
You must successfully complete at least 67% of all college courses you attempt (withdrawals and failures do count as attempted).
- This percentage is calculated by dividing the cumulative number of hours the student has successfully completed by the number of hours the student has attempted. The calculation must not fall below 67% and will be checked at the end of each term that a student is enrolled.
More information can be found on our website regarding SAP:
