Info Page Header Graphic

Each CDL cohort application opens 60 days prior to the start date.  Review and follow the steps to submit your application:

Step 1: Gather required documents

Before you begin your application, make sure to have copies of the FOUR following documents:

  1. Current unexpired Georgia Driver’s License.
    • Copies of temporary paper licenses will not be accepted.
  2. CDL Class A Learner’s Permit
    • Your permit can be obtained at any DMV office and it must be valid until the final date of your cohort. Study materials can be acquired at your local Georgia Department of Driver Services.  Permit testing will cover general knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicle.
    • Temporary paper copies are acceptable
  3. Certified 7-year Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
    • The certified 7-year Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) must be acquired in person, at a Georgia Department of Driver Services facility. Reports must not include any moving or non-moving violations. Serious Georgia Commercial Disqualifications must include a reinstatement date or be completely cleared from the Certified Motor Vehicle Report. All certified MVR reports are reviewed for approval by college personnel.
      • Earliest Day to get MVR:
        • Summer
          • March 28 – day and night class
  1. DOT Physicals
    • Physical must be valid until the final day of your CDL cohort.
    • The long form (form MCSA-5875, all pages) and medical card must be attached.
    • We recommend using our approved facility (Lake City Chiropractic) to obtain your DOT physical. Lake City is 2 miles from the North Metro campus.
  2. Drug Test
    • This is a requirement later in the process. Do not do this step until told by our CDL Admissions counselor.

Step 2: Submit CDL Application

Once you are within 60 days of the cohort start date, and have the above documents, complete and submit the application.

Step 3: Drug Test

Once you receive a confirmation email that your application documents were approved, you can begin this final step. Note that you do not need to test too early.

FMCSA Drug Test

    • You will be referred to our approved facility – Lake City Chiropractic.
    • Lake City will send your results directly to Chatt Tech CDL Admissions
    • Earliest Day to take Drug Test:
      • Summer Class A: April 27 – day and night class
      • Fall Class A: July 20 – day and night class
      • Fall Class B: July 20 – day class

Step 4: Additional Items

Once you have submitted your CDL admissions application, you can begin working on your financial aid.

  1. Complete the GSFAPPS application to apply for financial aid including the HOPE GRANT and HOPE CAREER GRANT.
    • You can complete the GSFAPPS application at any time during the application process but they will not be able to see what you are qualified for until you have been admitted to the college and are registered for the classes.
    • Please allow up to seven business days to process your financial aid application once registered.

The first 25 (day) and 16 (night) students per cohort date to complete all items will be admitted to the Chatt Tech’s Commercial Truck Driving Program.  Once a cohort is full, that class session will be removed from the application.

Once registered for your classes, you will be notified to make your payment in your Admissions letter.
