First Hunger Banquet Held at Marietta Campus

Faculty director of Service Learning, Sean Brumfield, and his staff hosted the
first-ever CTC Hunger Banquet in Bldg. H at the Marietta Campus on January 14, 2010.
Attendees were in for a unique experience. In addition to hearing an excellent
presentation by a representative of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, attendees were
treated to three types of lunches: one that might be typical of upper class society
(a very small portion of the world), one that is typical of the middle class, and one
that represented the type meal consumed by 50% of the world…those at the poverty level.
Plates were completely covered when placed on the table in front of attendees; no one
knew which type of meal they were given until instructed to remove the covers.
During the banquet, much information was shared about community and government aid
and agencies put in place to help alleviate hunger and poverty in this country (with
focus on Georgia). Staggering statistics were presented. Check out the Spring Q
issue of Chit Chatt for a detailed description of this worthwhile event.
