Chattahoochee Technical College announced recently that its Adult Education program at the Ellijay Learning Center now offers the option of Saturday classes for those wanting to prepare for the GED. exams. The classes are free.
The Saturday classes at the Ellijay Learning Center of Chattahoochee Technical College offer instruction in the five components of the GED, which include Writing, Literature, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
Now offered via computer at an Official GED. Testing Center, the test provides adults an opportunity to earn a high school equivalency diploma. In order to pass the GED, candidates 16 years of age or older must pass a series of five tests in writing skills, social studies, science, interpreting literature and arts, and mathematics. Successfully passing these sections demonstrates that the student has acquired a level of learning that is comparable to that of high school graduates. A minimum standard score of 410 is necessary to pass each individual exam, and an average score of 450 is required to pass the Official GED Test. Chattahoochee Technical College offers two certified locations, Jasper and Acworth, to individuals ready to complete the Official GED Test.
Recently the test changed from the paper version to a computerized test that must be administered at a certified testing center. The current version of the GED, which had been used since 2002, will be replaced December 2013 with a new test. Once this happens, any progress made under the older version of the test will be lost, and test takers will have to start over.
Those interested in attending GED Preparation classes must register for and attend an orientation and assessment at the center located at 760 Tails Creek Road (Highway 282). For more information on enrollment requirements and registration, please contact the office at 706-276-1185.
