Again this year, Chattahoochee Tech’s Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams opened the Indoor Season by volunteering. On Saturday, January 27, the Golden Eagles volunteered at the Southeast Regional Indoor Championships for the Special Olympics. Several hundred athletes from Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina participated in events all across Cobb County. For the second year, the track teams helped with the Powerlifting competition held at the Wyndham Hotel off Powers Ferry Road.
Thirty CTC athletes took turns quickly change weights between competitions during the five hour event. Those that were not currently helping with the actual competition cheered for the competitors and spent some one on one time getting to know them.
“I think some of our athletes discovered what dedication it takes to compete in this type of event,” according to Head Coach Steve Prettyman. “Many of athletes competing had previously competed in the world games and showed amazing talent. One athlete in particular just missed lifting over 700lbs! This was a great experience for our athletes to help out others in need, and to discover that you can overcome your limitations and do amazing things.”
